Adv. Tembeka Ngcukaitobi

He is an advocate of the High Court. He holds the degrees of BProc, LLB
(Unitra), LLM (Rhodes) and LLM (London School of Economics)

As an avid legal scholar, he has written extensively. In addition to several academic articles
in addition to several academic articles, Ngcukaitobi has written two well-received books
about land law and land reform in South Africa.

The Land Is Ours: South Africa’s First Black
Lawyers and the Birth of Constitutionalism (2018) is based on several years’ research and
focuses on historical land dispossession under colonialism and apartheid, as well as its links
to a burgeoning constitutionalism among black lawyers.

Land Matters: South Africa’s Failed
Reforms and the Road Ahead (2021), which was shortlisted for the 2022 Sunday Times
CNA Literary Award, sets out an argument for reforming policies on land ownership and land
occupation.

Ngcukaitobi has been strongly and publicly critical of the African National
Congress’s record in post-apartheid land reform.

Professor Victor Mbulaheni Mmbengwa

He is an executive director of Dihwai Food Cultural and Agricultural services trading in as DFAS Centre Pty Ltd. This institution was founded in 2002.
He is also a treasurer of Association of China-Africa Smallholder Agriculture (ACASA)-the organisation that assist smallholder farmers in Africa to trade with Chinese provincial government, investors and entreprenuers.

Professor Victor graduated his PhD (Agricultural Economics) in the University of the Free State (UFS) with two master’s degree i.e. Animal Science and Development studies in same university.

He did his post-doctoral fellowship at Northwest University under trade directorate.
He is currently a research fellow at the UFS, Extraordinaire Professor at Northwest University (NWU), Research associate at Binary Entrepreneurship University based in Malaysia and an adjunct Professor at the Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU).

Professor VM Mmbebgwa has been awarded several awards of excellence in field of agri-business. He has been nominated in several university councils. Lastly, Professor Victor Mmbengwa is a full-time mixed farmer who manage egg laying enterprise and hydroponics farming.

Dr Mnqobi Ngubane

He obtained his PhD from the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies, University of Western Cape.
Currently he is a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Sociological Research and Practice, University of Johannesburg.

He studies land redistribution impacts on social reproduction of subaltern communities in the Global South, and some parts of the Global North, against the backdrop of current crises of social reproduction.

This includes key themes on struggles for reproduction of small-scale farming in post land reform contexts, as well as dynamics of immigrant farm workers in contexts characterised by deepened crises of social reproduction.

Dr Luyanda Mtshali

Dr Luyanda Mtshali, received her Doctoral degree in Public Administration from the University of Zululand and is currently doing a Postdoctoral in the Department of Sociology, faculty of Humanities and the Centre for Sociological Research and Practice at the University of Johannesburg.

Over the years, her professional interests focused on Health, 4IR and agricultural activities at KwaDlangezwa, KwaZulu Natal South Africa.
Her current projects are article /journal publications and co-author with other scholars from different institutions.

One of her publications was in 2020; Mtshali, Thabisile.L, Adeoye O.Akinola and Nokukhaya N.Jili .Skills adequacy and service delivery among healthcare professionals at Umphumulo Public Hospital,KwaZulu Natal Province of South Africa,Volume 10,Issue 4,Dec 2020,p.7-24. She has also managed to publish from her dissertation.

Dr. Luyanda Mtshali has published research focused on small-scale sugarcane farming and the role of agricultural value chains, notably examining productivity improvements at mills like Felixton through collaborative approaches

She has also contributed to the study of the intersection between small-scale farming and the fourth industrial revolution, as well as wider discussions on land reform and agriculture development in South Africa.

Dr Yvonne Phyllis

She works as the Co-Director of Operations at The Forge , a progressive pan-African, radical space in Johannesburg, Braamfontein.

Prior to joining The Forge, Yvonne worked as a Lecturer at The University Currently Known as Rhodes.

She taught Comparative Politics and International Relations at the Department of Political and International Studies.

Born to farm workers in one of the most impoverished towns in the Eastern Cape, Enyarha (Bedford), Yvonne’s research interests include farm workers/dwellers’ lived experiences and struggles, the struggles of black first-generation graduates, equality, land reform and redistribution in South Africa.

Dr Trevor Ngwane

Trevor Ngwane is a scholar-activist who works in the academic and political spheres. He obtained his PhD at the University of Johannesburg in 2017.

He is a South African socialist, anti-apartheid activist, and author.
He previously worked as a sociology lecturer at Wits University where he helped found the Wits Workers’ School, to teach literacy to the campus cleaners and gardeners.
